Slide Talk – Blackwell’s Orange: Art from “A Curious Herbal”

Offered in conjunction with the exhibition The Color Orange, this slide talk will explore how artist Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman to produce an herbal on the scale of A Curious Herbal, a two-volume work identifying medicinal plants. Curator Sarah Boehme will examine Blackwell’s detailed illustrations – including The Orange Tree – and her connections to English botanical gardens.
