Family & Children Programs

SMA Playdate

Calling all little artists – SMA Playdate is BACK! Join us each second Friday of the month from 10:00-11:00 a.m. beginning Friday, September 9, 2022, for art-inspired play and art-making designed just for children 5 and under and their grown-ups. Each month features a new story and activity to help children and grown-ups engage with a work of art at the Stark Museum of Art while making new friends in our art studio. Playdates are scheduled on the second Friday of the month September 2022 through May 2023. Free admission.

Upcoming Programs

CREATE! Workshops

CREATE! Workshops are recommended for ages 8 and up and are designed to be multi-generational, but please note that younger children may require additional assistance from their accompanying grown-up. We encourage family collaboration during these workshops. Children ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult registered for the workshop. Registrants will briefly discuss a selected collection item and then will appreciate art in a new way when they make their own art in the studio. Some CREATE! Workshop artwork must be fired in the kiln. Artwork will be available approximately three weeks after the class. Please check with your teaching artists to confirm your pick-up dates.

CREATE! Workshops have a $5 or $10 material fee per registrant, depending on the supplies used in the workshop. Space is limited to 20 people per session including children and adults – all attendees must register.

Art Quest @ Home

In response to challenges presented by Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and the uncertainties surrounding our ability to meet in person as groups for the foreseeable future, the Stark Museum of Art Education department has developed a series of web-based at-home art kits. These web-based Art Quest @ Home art kits will offer a project with supporting visual arts activities that participants complete at home with the virtual guidance of a Stark Museum of Art Educator. Art Quest @ Home art kits are designed to accommodate students entering 1st-6th grades with an interest in visual art.
