Final weeks on view: Special exhibition celebrating the color orange closing soon at the Stark Museum of Art

After several months of celebrating the power of one color, the Stark Museum of Art's special exhibition, "The Color Orange," is entering its final weeks on view. The Museum encourages the community to visit soon and join this colorful, immersive experience before "The Color Orange" closes on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The exhibition explores the history, uses and effects of orange. The featured works on view are from the Stark Museum of Art's collection and include examples from European, American and American Indian artists. The experience extends beyond traditional viewing, however, with a series of hands-on experiences that provide unique opportunities for guests to engage with the color orange. Through these activities, hundreds of students, families and community members have been able to leave their mark on the exhibition by answering the central question, "How does orange make you feel?"

"'The Color Orange' has been a memorable chapter for the Stark Museum of Art and an exciting opportunity to engage our visitors through a playful combination of art, science and sensory experiences. This exhibition invited us to look at artworks from the 1500s to the 2000s and discover how artists have used orange to explore nature, create vibrant imagery and evoke emotion," said Ashley Thornton, exhibitions manager at the Stark Museum of Art.

From opening Pantone-inspired doors to exploring the impact orange makes on color vision, a total of seven interactive experiences are featured throughout the exhibition. As a part of the Stark Museum of Art's commitment to accessibility, the Museum has partnered with EnChroma, a company that makes specialized glasses designed to help people with color vision deficiency see a broader range of vibrant, clear and distinct color. Through one of the interactive experiences, guests can borrow EnChroma glasses from the Museum's Welcome Desk during their visit. September marks Color Blind Awareness Month, making an even more timely connection to visit "The Color Orange" during its final weeks on view.

"We are incredibly proud of this innovative exhibition and grateful to everyone who shared in the experience. 'The Color Orange' will remain a special part of our Museum’s story and a wonderful reflection of our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful experiences that encourage our community to discover, explore and connect with art," said Thornton.

Admission to the Stark Museum of Art is free of charge.
