The Stark Museum of Art has loaned the weaving World Traveler by Melissa Cody to an exhibition of the artist’s work. The exhibition Melissa Cody: Webbed Skies is on view at the Museum of Modern Art’s PS1 through September 9. The exhibition is the first major solo museum presentation of fourth-generation Navajo weaver Melissa Cody. It was jointly organized by MoMA PS1 and the Museu de arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (Brazil). Images of World Traveler appear on the MoMA PS1 website.

World Traveler is also mentioned prominently in an online review of the exhibition. Art critic Ben Davis began his Artnet review “What Makes Melissa Cody’s Vibrant Art Tapestries So Powerful to Me” by eloquently commenting on World Traveler, which he concludes “is beautifully controlled chaos—a delightful, deliberate tour de force.” Davis also advises the reader to, “Check out the related works of Navajo/Diné weaving in the collection of the Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, which owns the piece” and he provides a link to the Stark Museum’s online collections database.
